Executive Director Search Overview

Recycle BC is a not-for-profit organization responsible for residential packaging and paper recycling throughout British Columbia. There are over 200,000 tonnes of material collected from households and recycling depots each year. These collection services are provided by Recycle BC either directly to communities or through partnerships with collectors like local governments, First Nations, private companies, and other not-for-profit organizations serving over 195 communities across the province.

SK Recycles is a Saskatchewan-based not-for profit organization. SK members help fund household packaging and paper recycling services provided by Saskatchewan municipalities supporting these businesses to meet their Household Packaging and Paper Stewardship Program Regulations obligations.

Scope of Search

Summit Search Group BC was engaged to recruit a dynamic, results-driven leader for the role of Executive Director, Recycle BC & Acting Executive Director, SK Recycles. In this role the successful candidate will be responsible for implementing the vision and mission of both organizations in Western Canada.

The Executive Director will oversee all aspects of provincial operations and ensure sound financial management with a commitment to fiscal prudence, while enabling business growth through evidence-based decision making.

Search Process

To initiate this important search process Summit Search Group BC facilitated a discovery session with our clients to determine the essential qualifications necessary to meet the goals and objectives of this position.

Leveraging Summit Search Group BC’s extensive network, we were able to source candidates and conduct preliminary interviews to curate a short list of highly qualified candidates for our client.

From there we empowered our client with a recruitment work book of candidate resumes and profiles and assisted with the development of interview questions. This allowed for a streamlined client interview process in order to facilitate the final candidate selection.

Successful Search Results

After a comprehensive search process, we are pleased to announce Sam Baker as the new Executive Director of Recycle BC and Acting Executive Director of SK Recycles, effective April 1, 2025. Sam brings to this position a wealth of experience and expertise at such an exciting time for Recycle BC & SK Recycles. Sam has been with Recycle BC and SK Recycles (formerly Multi-Material Stewardship Western) for over eight years where he previously served as the Vice-President, Operations, Western Canada. Sam holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University and an MBA in International Business from Marquette University.
