Summit Search Group has been retained by The Manitoba Teachers’ Society for the recruitment of their next Senior Human Resource Advisor. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Human Resource Advisor will maintain the highest levels of integrity, trust, and confidentiality, as you are charged with the protection of sensitive information, and act with appropriate independence to ensure fairness and objectivity for all employees.
The Position:
The successful candidate will be an experienced HR professional who will coordinate and supervise the day-to-day operations of Human Resources supporting the Senior Leadership Team. The primary role of this position is to provide human resources, benefits and payroll expertise, support labour relations, collective bargaining, recruiting, and HR reporting to senior leadership, staff and external stakeholders. This role also oversees all managerial HR procedures to ensure accurate application of entitlement provisions of collective agreements, payroll, benefits, and any associated matters. The Human Resource Advisor is also responsible for maintaining and monitoring payroll and benefits, pension, attendance management, return to work support and professional development for staff. This is an in-office position, with WFH a few times a month.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement HR strategies, policies, and programs that support the company’s objectives and promote a positive work environment.
- Lead the recruitment and selection process, including sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding.
- Lead payroll and benefits.
- Acts as confidential support to the to the Senior Leadership Team regarding personnel matters; processes a broad range of highly confidential information such as grievance records, disciplinary notes and records, employment histories, correspondence and records on negotiations, job reviews and personnel files.
- Manage employee relations, including attendance management, seniority lists, conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and grievance procedures.
- Provide bargaining support, interpretation, and administration of two staff collective agreements, including managing grievances and arbitrations.
- Maintain and distribute staff performance assessments and professional growth & development schedules as per the collective agreements, follow up for completion and filing in HR records.
- Provide direct support and guidance to department heads, managers, and coordinators on setting expectations, monitoring performance, and managing relationships.
- Responsible for the provision of information to and communication with payroll service providers, pension and benefit carriers and external agencies.
- Acts as the Privacy Officer, responsible for all privacy related matters for the organization related to provincial privacy legislation.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws and regulations.
- Oversee the compensation and benefits programs, including salary administration, benefit plans, and employee benefits.
- Lead HR projects and initiatives to support organizational effectiveness and employee engagement.
- Provide leadership and guidance to foster a culture of inclusivity, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- Post-Secondary education in Human Resources Management or a related field from an accredited institution.
- 5+ years of experience in human resources in a unionized environment with exposure to collective agreements, contract interpretation, payroll and benefit administration processing.
- Experience administering pension, benefits, and contract administration.
- PCP certification or equivalent education and experience with the administration of a full-cycle payroll. Experience with Dayforce would be considered an asset.
- Experience as a Privacy Officer and knowledge of privacy legislation would be considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of HR Best Practices, employment laws and regulations.
- CPHR would be considered an asset.
