The Position:
Summit Search Group has been retained by Cobra Enterprises on the recruitment of their next Operations Manager, Electrical. Cobra Enterprises, established in 2009, is a leading construction company headquartered in Beausejour, Manitoba. The company offers comprehensive building solutions across various sectors, specializing in remote projects throughout northern Canada as well as large-scale urban commercial developments.
With a team of over 175 employees, Cobra Enterprises operates through three specialized divisions: Cobra Modular, providing modular construction services; Cobra Mechanical, delivering mechanical and electrical solutions; and Cobra Structures, focusing on pre-engineered building solutions and general contracting services.
The Operations Manager – Electrical is responsible for overseeing the full operational execution of residential, commercial, and industrial projects. This includes managing safety, budgets, staffing, scheduling, and quality assurance. Reporting to the President, this role leads field teams, coordinates with cross-functional departments, and ensures strategic alignment with company goals. The position demands a strong presence in leadership, planning, and business development, while ensuring projects meet technical, regulatory, and client standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational & People Leadership:
- Direct day-to-day operations of the Electrical division, ensuring efficient execution of all residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
- Monitor project performance to ensure adherence to safety, schedule, budget, and quality standards.
- Collaborate with Site Superintendents and Foremen to manage workforce assignments, resolve operational challenges, and maintain productivity.
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, and performance management in collaboration with HR.
- Mentor and coach field leadership, fostering a positive and accountable work environment.
Project Oversight:
- Participate in project planning meetings, change management discussions, and client reviews.
- Coordinate with the Project Management Office to support successful project initiation, progress tracking, and closeout.
- Oversee field installations and ensure compliance with technical and safety regulations.
Strategic Planning & Financial Management:
- Support the development and implementation of divisional strategies in alignment with organizational goals.
- Assist with budgeting, revenue monitoring, cost control, and identifying areas for process improvement and scalability.
- Provide input on estimating, quoting, and pricing strategies for upcoming projects.
Business Development & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, general contractors, and internal teams.
- Represent the company in business development efforts, contributing to growth opportunities and client satisfaction.
- Identify and recommend improvements to services and operations based on market and client feedback.
Health, Safety & Compliance:
- Promote a culture of safety through supervision, training, and enforcement of site-specific procedures.
- Collaborate with safety personnel to investigate incidents and implement preventive measures.
- Ensure compliance with all industry, trade, and provincial regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or relevant post-secondary education in construction or operations management combined with 8+ years of direct leadership experience.
- Journeyman Trade Certification in Electrical, Plumbing, Refrigeration, or Sheet Metal/HVAC.
- Proven background in managing complex projects across multiple sectors (residential, commercial, industrial)
- Strong leadership, communication, and team-building abilities.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is considered an asset.
