Human Resources Consultant
Summit Search Group is proud to support The Legislative Assembly of Alberta, in search of a Human Resources Consultant.
The Legislative Assembly Office (LAO) provides nonpartisan support to Alberta’s Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs). Human Resource Services (HRS) supports 87 MLAs, their staff, and former members by delivering responsive, expert HR programs and services.
The Human Resource Consultant is a fully functioning HR professional who provides strategic and operational HR expertise to various LAO client groups. Reporting to the Manager of Human Resource Services, the Human Resources Consultant collaborates with HR and payroll professionals to deliver services in accordance with LAO policies, legislative requirements, and HR best practices.

Key Responsibilities
- Recruitment & Workforce Planning: Guide job design, lead hiring processes, and support organizational design and workforce strategies.
- Employee Relations & Performance Management: Advise on employee issues, performance plans, and policy interpretation.
- Classification & Compensation: Conduct job evaluations and recommend equitable pay aligned with public service standards.
- Health, Safety & Wellness: Manage disability cases, support health and safety programs, and ensure legislative compliance.
- Learning & Development: Coordinate and deliver training programs and identify development opportunities.
- Project Coordination: Lead HR initiatives, policy development, and represent HRS on internal committees.
- Election Transition Support: Assist with onboarding/offboarding of MLAs and staff through elections and cabinet changes.
- Operational Support: Contribute to LAO events, records management, and promote a positive, respectful workplace culture.
Qualifications
- 2–3 years of HR experience across core functions (recruitment, planning, relations, etc.)
- Degree in HR, business administration, or related field; CPHR preferred
- Strong consulting, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Experience working with confidential issues and navigating legislation and policy
- Proficient with HR systems, Microsoft Office, and research tools
- Knowledge of Alberta public service directives and LAO-specific legislation and policies
This is a permanent full-time, onsite position in the heart of downtown Edmonton where employees enjoy the scenery of the Legislative Grounds and the river valley. Compensation includes a salary of $71,000 – 98,000, 15 days vacation, defined benefit pension plan, extended health and dental in addition to a health spending account.
