Summit Search Group has been retained by The Manitoba Teachers’ Society for the recruitment of their next Director, Professional Status. Based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Director, Professional Status works as part of the Senior Management Team to implement the mission, goals and objects of the Society. The Director, Professional Status provides decision-making support, strategic advice, and administrative oversight for matters pertaining to the status of the teaching profession and school leadership (professional learning and development, certification, teacher regulation, engagement and outreach).
The Position:
This leader is a role model who supports a positive and collaborative culture focused on building strong teams that serve the membership. This position requires a high level of organizational
leadership, managerial confidentiality, and professional judgment. The Director, Professional Status is expected to attend the workplace on a daily basis; flexible working arrangements may be available on request. The Director, Professional Status must foster positive relationships, maintain a healthy, productive workplace, and work with all departments and education partners to effectively advocate for the members of the Society. Applicants must have experience working in leadership roles; working in a unionized environment; managing conflict, risk, and change; and working with elected bodies. Candidates must also have knowledge of effective governance practices and the Manitoba educational system. They must also have a strong knowledge of best practices in educational leadership and professional learning and development.
Candidates must possess a minimum of five years progressive experience in a senior level management position. The successful candidate will be a proven leader with strong communication
and interpersonal skills; a collaborative leadership style in strategic and operational planning is essential to this position. Knowledge and experience in budgeting, investments and financial
reporting are necessary. Fluency in French will be considered an asset.
Education:
- A post-secondary and/or graduate degree in a related field.
- A graduate degree in education will be considered an asset
- Valid Manitoba teacher’s certificate is an asset
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience or equivalent in a senior level financial
management position. - Strong leadership experience with experience leading a collaborative team
- Experience working in a unionized environment.
- Experience working with elected bodies providing governance, operation and strategic advice.
Skills:
- Strong leadership skills with a focus on strategic and operational planning, with the ability to concurrently coordinate day-to-day operations, respond to emergent issues, meet deadlines,
and manage multiple, complex imperatives in a dynamic and fast-paced environment; - Ability to analyze situations and resolve tensions, conflicts, and differences of opinion with individuals and groups;
- Proven collaborator with the ability to successfully lead a department;
- Analytical, problem-solving and effective report and presentation skills;
- Strong commitment to equity and diversity, with proven skills in promoting a respectful and inclusive workplace environment.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in Governance. Fluency in French would be considered an asset.
Terms and conditions of employment will be outlined within a Personal Services Agreement. Start date to be determined.
