The Position
Summit Search Group has been retained by SK Recycles on the recruitment of their newest Collections Specialist. SK Recycles is a non-profit organization responsible for managing the recycling of household packaging and paper across Saskatchewan. Working with producers, collectors, municipalities, First Nations, Métis communities, and residents, SK Recycles ensures household materials are collected from households and depots, sorted, and responsibly recycled.
Reporting to the Manager, Collection, the Collection Specialist, will be the driving force behind efficient recycling collection operations across Saskatchewan. You’ll work directly with collection service providers and local partners to keep things running smoothly, ensure quality standards are met, and continuously improve processes. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on building relationships, solving problems, and making an impact.
Key Responsibilities
Collection Operations & Relationship Management:
- Act as the primary contact for collection service providers, ensuring smooth operations in designated regions.
- Oversee onboarding, service changes, and contract management for collection providers.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, local governments, and Indigenous communities.
- Conduct training, site visits, and issue resolution to maintain compliance and improve efficiency.
- Monitor collection data and field reports to identify and address quality and compliance issues.
- Implement best practices to enhance operational performance and increase material recovery.
Program Development & Process Improvement:
- Develop and implement standardized procedures, tools, and templates for collection operations.
- Support the creation of vendor standards, scorecards, and reporting protocols.
- Collaborate with internal teams on communications, education materials, and public engagement.
- Lead projects that improve recycling efficiency, reduce contamination, and enhance service delivery.
- Coordinate program updates with stakeholders and manage transitions between service models.
- Occasionally represent SK Recycles at public events, conferences, and outreach initiatives.
Qualifications
- 5+ years in operations, supply chain, or waste management, preferably in the public/private sector.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office. (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Data Analysis Tools.
