Controller
Summit Search Group is proud to represent our client, who has been established over 50 years and is committed to providing exemplary services in safety prevention and response who is currently seeking a Controller.
As the Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities of the organization, including leading the accounting team, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data. This is a key leadership role that requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively communicate financial information to stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Cash management, including all treasury functions and administration, and preparation of weekly and monthly cash forecasts
- Ultimate responsibility for general accounting, management reporting, financial reporting, and payroll
- Manage the month-end close process, including review of journal entries and reconciliations
- Preparation and review of monthly board of director and financial partner reports, and consolidated financial statements
- Prepare and present financials at quarterly board meetings
- Develop and support the annual budget and review monthly variance reports
- Preparation of year-end schedules and working papers for external accountants
- Monitoring and improving accounting policies to ensure internal controls are operating effectively
- Coaching and mentoring team members
- Liaising with external auditors in the annual review and audit process
- Ensuring that GST and PST filings are completed accurately and within the deadlines
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, accounting, or related area and accounting designation preferred
- 5 -10 years’ accounting experience
- Strong technical accounting skills, with the ability to review complex transactions
- Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, and adapt in response to a demanding and fast-paced work environment
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with all team members, external accountants, and other external consultants
- Self-motivated with a positive attitude and a results-oriented approach
- A high degree of professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Excellent leadership skills with a willingness to train, motivate and develop team members through a supportive management style
- Experience with Sage 50 is considered essential
- Intermediate or higher knowledge of MS Office, specifically MS Excel
Remuneration:
The is a full-time onsite role that offers salary between $100,000 -110,000 in addition to profit sharing, RRSP matching, stock options, and medical and dental health benefits.
