The Position:
Summit Search Group has been retained by our client in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on the recruitment of their next Assistant Service Manager. The Assistant Service Manager plays a key role in the day-to-day execution of the service department, acting as a bridge between the front counter, customers, and shop operations. This position is responsible for managing repair orders, coordinating workflow with technicians, and ensuring a seamless customer experience from intake through completion. While remaining actively involved in service advising, the role also supports overall department performance by helping prioritize work, maintain efficiency, and keep communication flowing across the team.
In addition to core operational responsibilities, the Assistant Service Manager will gradually take on leadership functions within the department. This includes supporting team members, contributing to workflow planning, and gaining exposure to the financial and operational drivers of the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage service repair orders (ROs), ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and strong customer communication
- Provide front-line customer service support, building relationships and delivering a high-quality experience
- Coordinate workflow between the front counter and shop technicians to optimize productivity
- Support daily service department operations, including scheduling and prioritization of work
- Assist in monitoring and improving shop performance, efficiency, and customer satisfaction metrics
- Begin taking on supervisory responsibilities, including coaching and supporting team members
- Partner with leadership to learn financial and operational aspects of the service department
- Contribute to a positive, team-oriented culture focused on accountability and continuous improvement
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in a Service Advisor or similar role within an automotive or heavy-duty service environment
- Proven track record of strong customer service, organization, and service workflow management
- Demonstrated ambition to move into a leadership or management role
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build trust with customers and internal teams
- Highly organized with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced, operational setting
- Coachable mindset with a willingness to learn and take on increasing responsibility
- Team-oriented with emerging leadership capability (informal leadership experience is an asset)
