
Accounting Technician
Summit Search Group is proud to partner with a public-sector organization, certified as a Great Place to Work, in their search for an Accounting Technician in Edmonton, Alberta.
The Accounting Technician ensures all financial transactions are compliant within a complex financial framework while maintaining the integrity of internal controls and processes in support of the preparation of financial statements. You will be screening expenses for compliance and supporting the monthly financial reporting process as well as the quarterly expenses disclosure process.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and process credit card, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger and nonfinancial transactions by entering them into the accounting system
- Determine compliance of financial transactions with policies and procedures by ensuring transactions adhere to guidelines and policies
- In event of compliance issues, conduct research and provide recommendations supported by relevant information and a summary of findings
- Support the monthly financial reporting process by reviewing monthly expense reports for accuracy
- Support the quarterly public expenses disclosure process by reviewing for accuracy and redacting relevant information
- Demonstrate support for a positive and respectful workplace culture
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Post secondary in accounting, business administration, or finance
- 3-5 years progressively responsible related experience
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills for relationship building and collaboration with teammates and clients alike
- Ability to use good judgment and tact in all interactions
- Knowledge of accounting principles and the accounting cycle
- Experience in the functions of an accounting system and fully integrated enterprise resource planning (ERP) application
- Strong computer skills that include spreadsheet, word processing, and database applications
This is a permanent full-time, onsite position in the heart of downtown Edmonton. Compensation includes a salary of $66,000 – 86,000, 15 days vacation, pension plan, and a health spending account.
