The Position
Reporting to the Clinicians and Director of Clinic Operations, the Production Manager is responsible for leading the daily operations of the fabrication lab and overseeing the full lifecycle of orthotic and prosthetic device production, from work order intake through final quality assurance.
This role will play a critical part in expanding Anderson Orthopedics’ in-house production capacity, advancing both traditional and digital manufacturing workflows, and ensuring consistent quality, efficiency, and compliance across all fabricated devices.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate day-to-day fabrication lab workflows to ensure timely completion of orthotic and prosthetic devices.
- Prioritize production schedules based on clinical demand, patient timelines, and material availability.
- Ensure quality, consistency, and accuracy of finished products in accordance with Anderson Orthopedics’ standards, ISO guidelines, and clinical specifications.
- Oversee all stages of production, from work order intake through final inspection and delivery.
- Implement, maintain, and refine digital manufacturing workflows including CAD/CAM, CNC carving, digital scanning, and 3D printing.
- Supervise, train, and mentor fabrication technicians and lab staff.
- Assign work, manage workloads, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Promote continuous learning related to materials, composites, adhesives, thermoforming, and additive manufacturing.
- Foster a professional, collaborative, and safety-focused lab culture.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian O&P regulations, infection control standards, and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Conduct routine inspections, calibration, and maintenance scheduling for lab equipment and machinery.
- Maintain accurate documentation related to device manufacturing, materials, inventory, and traceability.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve production SOPs for both traditional and digital fabrication workflows.
- Oversee procurement and inventory management of raw materials, components, and consumables.
- Evaluate new technologies, tools, and vendors to improve efficiency, quality, and production capacity.
- Support process optimization initiatives using Lean, 5S, or similar methodologies where applicable.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or degree in Orthotics/Prosthetics, Biomedical or Mechanical Technology, Manufacturing/Engineering Technology, Industrial Design, or Additive Manufacturing.
- 5+ years of experience in orthotic/prosthetic fabrication, medical device manufacturing, or advanced composites environments.
- 3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience in a production or lab setting.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of traditional fabrication techniques (lamination, thermoforming, plastics) and digital workflows (CAD/CAM, CNC, 3D printing).
- Experience collaborating with clinicians to manage work orders, timelines, and quality standards.
- Solid understanding of inventory management, production workflows, and quality assurance.
- Strong communication, team leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with safety standards, WHMIS, and regulated manufacturing environments.
