The Position
Reporting to Senior Clinicians and Operations Leaders, the Certified Orthotist/Prosthetist provides comprehensive patient care for individuals with disabling conditions of the limbs and spine. This role involves clinical assessment, device design and fabrication, fitting and alignment, patient education, and collaboration with physicians and allied health professionals. The successful candidate will play an active role in maintaining the clinic’s culture, mission, and commitment to patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Clinical Assessment
- Assess patients by reviewing medical records, examining functional loss, and determining orthotic/prosthetic needs.
- Consult with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and rehabilitation professionals regarding patient care plans.
- Provide services in-clinic and at external sites such as hospitals and nursing homes, as required.
Device Fabrication, Fitting & Modification
- Select appropriate materials; perform casting, measurements, model modifications, and layouts.
- Manufacture orthotic and prosthetic devices.
- Perform static and dynamic fittings and alignments.
- Evaluate devices on patients and make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal fit, function, appearance, and quality.
- Repair and modify devices as needed.
Documentation & Administration
- Maintain accurate, detailed patient records in a timely manner.
- Calculate materials, time, and funding codes to ensure accurate patient billing.
- Prepare specifications and instructions for technicians when applicable.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with administrative and clinical support staff.
Patient Education & Professional Practice
- Instruct patients on proper use, limitations, care, cleaning, and maintenance of devices.
- Promote patient safety, independence, and long-term outcomes.
- Participate in continuing education, research initiatives, and professional development opportunities.
- Uphold professional standards and maintain good standing with Orthotics Prosthetics Canada (OPC).
Leadership & Collaboration
- May supervise Orthotic/Prosthetic Technicians or support staff, if applicable.
- Actively contribute to a positive clinic culture aligned with the organization’s mission and values.
Qualifications & Experience
- College Diploma of Technology in Prosthetics and Orthotics.
- Current OPC Certification and membership in good standing.
- 1–3 years of experience in an orthotic/prosthetic clinical setting preferred.
- Manual dexterity and comfort using hand tools and lab machinery.
- Understanding of device fabrication and modification techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret prescriptions, technical drawings, and work orders.

- Strong time-management, organization, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while managing clinical and technical responsibilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Empathic, approachable, and patient-focused.
- Demonstrated ability to delegate and collaborate effectively.
Safety & Compliance
- Knowledge of lab safety practices, PPE use, and material handling.
- Willingness to complete training in chemical safety, infection control, and related protocols.
