Human Resources Business Partner
Summit Search Group is proud to support The Legislative Assembly of Alberta, in search of a Human Resources Business Partner.
The Legislative Assembly Office (LAO) provides nonpartisan support to Alberta’s Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs). Human Resource Services (HRS) supports 87 MLAs, their staff, and former members by delivering responsive, expert HR programs and services.
The successful Human Resources Business Partner will be a strategic and operational HR leader who will provide expert guidance across all areas of human resources, aligning programs with organizational goals and culture.
Reporting to the Manager of Human Resource Services, the HRBP works within a collaborative team of HR and payroll professionals to deliver integrated HR services in line with LAO policies, legislation, and public service best practices.

Key Responsibilities
- Human Resources Consulting: Advise client groups on HR strategy, employee relations, policy, and performance issues. Analyze workforce data to inform planning.
- Coaching & Development: Provide leadership coaching, support employee engagement, and facilitate training initiatives.
- Talent Management: Lead recruitment strategies, workforce planning, and employee development programs.
- Employee Relations: Address performance concerns, support accommodations, and ensure compliance with legal and policy frameworks.
- Operations & Projects: Contribute to HR program development, change management, and cross-functional initiatives that support LAO’s strategic plan.
- Classification & Compensation: Conduct job evaluations, recommend compensation strategies, and ensure consistency with public service standards.
- Organizational Support: Support transition activities related to elections and organizational change; foster a respectful, healthy workplace culture.
Qualifications
- 5+ years experience as a human resources generalist or business partner
- Postsecondary degree in human resources, business administration or related field
- CPHR designation preferred
- Strong knowledge of employment legislation, HR practices, and public sector policies
- Exceptional interpersonal, coaching, and consulting skills
- Strategic thinker with a solution-oriented mindset
This is a permanent full-time, onsite position in the heart of downtown Edmonton where employees enjoy the scenery of the Legislative Grounds and the river valley. Compensation includes a salary of $81,000 – 108,000, 15 days vacation, defined benefit pension plan, extended health and dental in addition to a health spending account.
