About Our Client:
Our client is an ambulatory centre in Richmond Hill.
Position Scope:
Reporting to the Chief Operations and Chief Nursing Officer, the Director will manage interprofessional staff consisting of operating room registered nurses, anesthesia assistants, techs, and other healthcare professionals. As an integral member of the leadership and patient care team, the primary role of the Director includes: providing exemplary leadership and operational management for a clinical area(s) and multigenerational/interprofessional team(s); ensuring excellence in the provision of patient care, the achievement of corporate/program objectives and the creation of a healthy workplace that maximizes the potential of all who work; performs planning and operations responsibilities; performing quality management responsibilities; participating in special projects, corporate/research initiatives and other activities that support and advance the organizational goals.
Responsibilities:
- Develops, implements and evaluates nursing professional care delivery models within the context of the interprofessional team
- Develops and evaluates standards for effective optimization of Health Human Resources (HHR) to manage patient surge and health system pressures
- Be the content matter expert for nursing practice including legal and regulatory requirements (scope of practice, credentialing) responsible for interpreting and developing standards of care in alignment with best practice and evidence
- Assesses nursing practice, reviews critical incidents and events, identifies risks, develops and implements quality initiatives to ensure continuous quality improvement (systemic quality initiatives)
- Promotes, implements and assesses new technology to optimize patient care delivery – technology-enabled care and delivery – leads clinical product reviews, develops education, implements, evaluates and plans for replacement cycle
- Provides consult to operational leadership in identifying, managing and resolving competency, conduct and capacity practice issues for nurses across the organization.
- Implements practice improvement plans for nurses requiring remediation, and mandatory reporting.
- Oversees new nursing documentation requirements, leveraging evidence, best practice and technological advances to support clinical decision-making
- Maintains a shared responsibility for managing staff, including Managers, Nurses, Resource Nurse, Educators, Physio Therapist, Physiotherapy Assistant, Sitters (PSW), Occupational Therapist, Clinical Assistants, Social Workers, Dietitian, Educators, Clerical Assistant and Administrative Assistant
- Develops, implements and communicates performance measures; maintains knowledge of the different disciplines to facilitate conducting regular performance appraisals, in a manner that is fair and consistent.
- Ensures staff meet professional practice standards, e.g., College of Nurses, College of Physiotherapy, etc., to ensure safe and high-quality patient care.
- Determines and implements standards for staff skill levels, productivity and education levels, ensuring appropriate certification/licensure.
- Determines training needs and implements training programs to improve staff performance; imparts knowledge of policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Provides professional/technical growth and development for staff and coordinates academic partnerships with educational institutions.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Theoretical and practical experience in adult education required.
- Educational program planning, development and evaluation preferred.
- Completion of a Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) program, Level II: Basic Rescuer certification required.
- Specialty certification as per area of responsibility required.
- Strong teaching and adult learning skills required.
- Current membership in a related professional interest group or association preferred.
Education and Experience:
- Undergraduate or Master’s Degree in Nursing or recognized equivalent preferred.
- Regulated Health Professional (CNO/or MRTO)
- Completion of Registered Nurses Program.
- Minimum 5 years of (RN) and an Ontario College of Nurses registration/or a master’s degree in nursing is preferred and a Minimum 5 years of recent, relevant experience in a nursing leadership, advanced practice or similar position.
