SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER
POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Project Manager, reporting to the Director of Development Strategy, mentors a team of project managers and one project coordinator in delivering Métis Nation BC housing and mixed-use development projects from initial scope development to certificate of occupancy. The role emphasizes strategic planning and leadership to align with the organization’s long-term goals.
Responsibilities include proposing and implementing industry-standard project documentation and management processes to oversee the scope, schedule, and budget of capital projects. Projects range from $40M-$60M mixed-use developments to community office renovations under $100K.
The Senior Project Manager collaborates to ensure consistent enterprise-wide processes. The position supports project managers in updating senior management and stakeholders on budget, scope, and schedule status; engages regularly with internal and external stakeholders; aids in establishing contract and budget administration processes; and contributes to reporting to leadership, funders, and other stakeholders.

• Hybrid / Remote from anywhere in BC.
Provincial Head Office – Surrey, BC.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Establish and educate staff in using and monitoring the ongoing maintenance of a comprehensive suite of project documentation, including property information, contracts, design development documentation, project charters, memoranda of understanding, and risk registers. Ensure these documents align with PMI PMBOK standards and are continuously improved and innovatively tailored to meet MNBC’s unique requirements.
• Mentor staff in the rollout and effective use of Procore project management software and Smartsheet software for project scheduling and task management. Promote digital transformation to enhance efficiency and streamline project workflows.
• Assist Project Managers in improving their skills and habits as they plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate development projects from start to finish according to schedule, specifications, and budget.
• Proactively identify and assist project managers in developing skills to manage changes, issues, and risks to ensure successful project completion; prepare contingency plans, corrective actions, and recommendations for resolution for senior management.
• Mentor staff as they lead consultant and contractor solicitation and selection.
• Collaborate with staff, consultants, and contractors on project schedules and budgets, design development, permitting, and construction.
• Always understand the status of each project’s critical path and help the project team address issues on time to maintain schedules and satisfy stakeholders. Elevate issues to senior management as appropriate.
• Work with project managers as they prepare monthly project schedules and budget status reports for senior management.
• Conduct a lessons-learned review with the team upon completion of project stages and ensure they learn how to conduct reviews independently.
• Guide staff in preparing risk analyses, including proposed mitigation measures, for projects and changes to projects to aid senior management in decision-making.
• Review project finances, ensuring financial integrity and accountability across MNBC development projects. Guide staff in developing and managing project budgets and forecasts.
• Demonstrate exceptional community engagement and communication skills, effectively addressing stakeholder concerns and fostering positive relationships.
• Provide recommendations for MNBC program and policy enhancements based on thorough research and best practices.
Overall:
• Actively participate in committees and project teams, demonstrating proactive engagement and leadership to drive project success and organizational growth.
• Undertake related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade of the position.
• Other duties may be assigned as needed to ensure the efficient operation of MNBC.
• Attendance at certain meetings and events will require occasional work and travel outside of normal business hours. Supervision Given
• Provide mentorship, guidance, and education to the project management team, offering performance feedback and evaluation to ensure high standards. Lead the development of leadership skills within the team and recommend corrective measures to senior management as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum of five (5) years of recent experience in construction project management, real estate development, or a related field.
• Bachelor’s degree or certificate in real estate development, project management, or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution or certifying body.
• Certified Associate Project Manager (CAPM) certification is an asset, with Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred or equivalent. Additional relevant certifications and a strong commitment to continuous learning and professional development are highly valued.
• Proficiency with Procore or similar project management software is an asset.
• Experience working in, or in conjunction with, a Project Management Office is an asset.
• Experience in contract development and administration, including Canadian Construction Documents Committee (CCDC) or Master Municipal Construction Documents (MMCD) contracts.
• Extensive experience and knowledge in project scheduling, contract administration, project documentation management, and project budget development and management.
• Demonstrated experience leading complex, multifaceted development projects with a proven successful project delivery track record.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and experience leading work groups.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels.
• In-depth knowledge of housing or mixed-use development and the BC municipal land development process is an asset.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 software, including Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Proven planning and organizational skills.
• Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge and/or awareness of the historical and contemporary contributions made by Métis people in B.C.
• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a Class 5 driver’s licence may be required.
• The position requires the completion of a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check due to potential contact with vulnerable populations.
