Position Scope:
The Senior Payroll Coordinator will oversee the end-to-end administration of weekly payroll, ensuring that all employee compensation is delivered accurately, on schedule, and in compliance with legislative standards. This individual will play a critical role in serving as a trusted point of contact for employee inquiries.
Responsibilities:
- Administer end-to-end weekly payroll for salaried and hourly employees across unionized and non-unionized groups, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Prepare and submit statutory filings (WSIB/WCB, EHT, source deductions) and issue employee tax forms (T4, ROE, T2202).
- Maintain precise, audit-ready payroll records in alignment with legal and organizational standards.
- Partner with the Human Resources team to update payroll data related to employee records such as new hires, compensation changes, promotions and terminations.
- Act as the primary contact for payroll inquiries, preparing letters, resolving discrepancies, and providing clear guidance to employees.
- Review and validate payroll data, time entries, and reports to ensure compliance with internal controls and legislative requirements.
- Generate payroll reports to support monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial cycles.
- Administer salary adjustments, reimbursements, bonuses, and incentive pay in accordance with company policies
- Contribute to finance projects and assist with additional payroll-related tasks as needed.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Proven experience managing full-cycle payroll with strong knowledge of related legislation.
- Advanced Excel and payroll system expertise for reporting and data accuracy.
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and professionalism when handling sensitive employee inquiries.
- High level of confidentiality, discretion, and integrity.
- Organized, adaptable, and able to work independently while collaborating effectively with others.
- Demonstrates coachability and openness to feedback
- Adapts well to direction and new processes; quick learner
- Comfortable with new technologies
Education and Experience:
- Minimum 4+ years’ experience processing end-to-end payroll.
- Post-secondary education in Payroll, Accounting, HR, or related field preferred.
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation an asset.
