Position Scope:
The Sr. Estimator will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the organization’s commercial drywall construction projects. As a key contributor, they will be responsible for preparing comprehensive cost estimates that drive project success. The Sr. Estimator will gather and analyze project requirements, meticulously review plans and specifications, and deliver timely, accurate estimates.
In this customer-focused position, the Sr. Estimator will manage the entire bid process—soliciting and evaluating bids from subcontractors and suppliers and preparing final bid documents that reflect the organization’s commitment to excellence. The Sr. Estimator will directly impact client satisfaction and will work closely with clients and general contractors.
Responsibilities:
- Foster lasting connections with clients, general contractors, and suppliers, enhancing collaboration and project success.
- Represent the organization in pre-bid meetings and negotiations with confidence and collaboration, showcasing expertise and building trust with prospective clients.
- Develop precise and comprehensive cost estimates for commercial drywall projects, ensuring each bid is competitive and accurate.
- Use estimation software tools such as On-Screen Takeoff and QuickBid to streamline the estimation process and enhance accuracy.
- Comprehensively review project plans and specifications to fully understand the work scope and uncover opportunities for innovation and efficiency.
- Engage with suppliers to secure the best pricing, explore alternative solutions, and optimize project budgets.
- Build strong relationships with clients, negotiating bids and providing proactive follow-up to ensure satisfaction and alignment.
- Craft detailed bid documents, including thorough cost breakdowns and summaries of subcontractor and supplier contributions.
- Identify and strategize around potential risks and cost-saving opportunities to improve project outcomes.
- Keep cost data current and competitive by regularly reviewing and updating standard rates and information.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of commercial construction processes
- Proficiency in using construction cost estimating software
- Skilled in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications
- Strong knowledge of drywall materials and construction methods
- Knowledge of On-Screen Takeoff and QuickBid software
- Effective and professional communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical abilities
- Self-motivated and driven to excel
Education and Experience:
- 5+ years’ experience in commercial drywall estimating required
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in construction management, engineering, or a related field is an asset.
- Experience with construction cost estimating software such as On-Screen Takeoff or QuickBid is an asset
