Senior Accountant (Operations & Payroll)

Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly analytical CPA-designated Senior Accountant to play a key role in supporting the financial operations of the business. Reporting directly to the CFO, this position is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, overseeing payroll and transactional processes, and providing insights that support operational and strategic decision-making.
This is a hands-on role with broad exposure across finance, sales operations, and business administration, offering the opportunity to contribute to process improvements, financial analysis, and cross-functional coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting Oversight
- Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance of financial records and processes
- Review and oversee accounts payable activities and reconciliations performed by clerks
- Perform and review balance sheet reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies
- Support audit processes and ensure readiness of financial documentation
- Assist the CFO with financial analysis, reporting, and special projects
Payroll Oversight & Compliance
- Oversee and review payroll processing for 200+ employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Ensure adherence to relevant payroll legislation and internal controls
- Review payroll reconciliations and reporting, identifying variances and trends
- Act as a key point of escalation for complex payroll matters
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity of payroll data
Financial Analysis & Operational Support
- Provide financial insights related to costing, pricing, and margin analysis
- Support the sales team with pricing structures, ensuring alignment with financial objectives
- Analyze expense trends, including credit card and sales-related expenditures
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis as required
- Identify opportunities for improved financial performance and operational efficiency
Process Improvement & Internal Controls
- Evaluate existing financial and payroll processes and recommend improvements
- Strengthen internal controls and ensure consistency in financial procedures
- Support the implementation and optimization of systems (including Sage 300)
- Drive efficiencies across finance, sales, and administrative workflows
Cross-Functional Leadership & Support
- Act as a key liaison between finance, sales, and operations teams
- Provide guidance and oversight to administrative and accounting support staff
- Support leadership with accurate, timely, and actionable financial information
- Contribute to a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- CPA designation (required)
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a multi-functional role
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, internal controls, and payroll practices
- Experience overseeing transactional accounting functions (AP, payroll, reconciliations)
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting systems (Sage 300 preferred)
- Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
