Operations Manager
Reporting to the General Manager, the Operations Manager is accountable for and oversees the operational management of all water operations, including health, safety, regulatory, environmental, maintenance, and reporting, in alignment with the goals of our client’s company. This company is accountable for diversion of raw water, transmission of stormwater and distribution of irrigation water under the Irrigation District Act, Water Act, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, and the long- and short-term protection of company assets.
You will be expected to foster an inclusive leadership approach, as well as physical and psychological safety. As a strategic decision-maker you will possess political acumen and have experience in leading transformational change and enabling innovation.
Primary duties include:
- Serve as a primary contact and communications link for company water operations and pertaining to emergent situations with upstream and downstream stakeholders, lots, including the development, execution and implementation of related agreements.
- Ensure that operations, capital projects and future planning initiatives follow federal, provincial and municipal statutes and regulations.
- Develop policies and procedures pertaining to the supply of water, particularly with respect to administering and managing applications for the supply of water.
- Develop, maintain and apply policy, procedure and training manuals pertaining to water management and distribution, safety and emergencies.
- Possess working knowledge of the water infrastructure, such as pumps, water treatment, distribution, and areas of service.
- Oversee the hiring, retention, scheduling and performance of staff responsible for areas of service.
- Attend and present at monthly Board of Directors meetings and Annual General Meetings.
- Communicate with provincial, municipal and private representatives to provide updates and inform of development, operational and other operations matters.
- Inform clients and stakeholders on an ongoing basis of water supply matters.
- Oversee the development and operation of a Central Operations Control Center for irrigation and stormwater operations management.
- Annually review and update the seepage report and provide an annual status report to the General Manager and Board of Directors.
- Complete Field observations including ensuring compliance with safety procedures
- Ensure all water testing and quality compliance requirements are met including the annual report
- Other duties as required and assigned by the General Manager.
Qualifications:
- Senior and diverse work experience including leading and supervising a team.
- Demonstrated success in building, developing and leading teams, leading and managing change, developing and using metrics to improve performance, deploying resources to achieve effective and efficient outcomes and establishing and maintaining strong and positive working relationships with colleagues, clients and elected officials.
- Experience in a water utility, energy transmission and or other energy utility operations and construction is considered an asset.
- Experience with various software to operate a water delivery system, communicate effectively and track metrics. Experience in remote central control operations and dispatching would be beneficial.
- Familiarity with water diversion and treatment through field exposure once in the role is expected.
- Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
- A completed diploma or degree would be considered beneficial.
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s License
Renumeration:
This role comes with a salary ranging between $140,000 – $160,000, plus company benefits and paid vacation time.
