Position Scope:
Reporting to the Senior Director, Corporate Communications, the Manager, Real Estate Communications is responsible for overseeing the representation of a positive organizational image and real estate brands and projects through effective media and communications strategies.
The Manager will design and execute strategies to elevate the Company’s real estate profile and brand among key audiences by leveraging media, social media, industry events, and marketing communications. This will include overseeing the monitoring of media trends and stories and the research of stakeholder positions to effectively design plans that will strengthen the reputation of the Company and elevate its real estate development projects.
The Manager works with the Real Estate and Construction team to propose and implement comprehensive communications, events, and marketing strategies to support the Company’s Real Estate and Construction lines of business. The Manager also works with government or agency officials on specific communications issues, reporting, challenges or opportunities. The incumbent also manages tracking and reporting of social media and media activity.
Responsibilities:
Communications Planning
- Develop and execute integrated communications plans to promote land and real estate developments.
- Plan or assist in planning and executing events, open houses, site tours, and community engagement activities with the Real Estate Division teams.
- Collaborate with vendors, agencies and internal teams to deliver seamless event experiences.
- Participate in overseeing the work of third-party agencies responsible for communication and/or public engagement activities.
- Working with the Manager, Corporate Communications, identifies and develops opportunities to position Real Estate leaders as subject matter experts in their fields.
Media Relations
- Strategic management of the Real Estate Division’s reputation across the country through proactive communications programs and issues management
- Develop the strategy for measuring earned media to evaluate the Real Estate Division’s brand and reputation
- Creates and updates the real estate narrative, messages and positions related to specific corporate issues that would be of interest to media
- Maintain relationships with key media personalities and influencers, and manages media inquiries
- Secure earned media content highlighting the Company’s real estate work
- Pitches story ideas and maintains a network of media contacts to secure earned media coverage where the Company operates across the country
- Oversee development of news releases, media fact sheets, articles, media pitches, speeches, media events, etc.
- Research, monitors and reports on trends in the Company’s key sectors to ensure that the Real Estate Division’s and Company’s messaging is always on point
- Oversee the production of media analysis reports as needed
- Manage relationships with external vendors
Social Media
- Design social media strategies to elevate the Real Estate Division’s storytelling capacity and optimize its channels and content according to each business line
- Develops strategies for measuring the Real Estate Division’s brand and reputation on social media
- Produce social media analysis reports as needed
- Community management for real estate social media channels as needed
- Work with the Manager, Corporate Communications to develop social media policies, procedures and guidelines
Branding
- Work with real estate teams on the roll out of co-branding strategies to build the notoriety of the corporate brand across markets and ensure co-branding alignment and timely execution
- Ensure accuracy and consistency in external branding
- Manage the co-branding function and the roll out of related strategies to build the notoriety of real estate projects across markets
- Project manages the design and creative development of co-branding initiatives
- Work with vendors to develop co-branding strategies and to implement branding projects to enhance awareness for the Company and its real estate projects
- Ensures accuracy and consistency in real estate branding
Team Management
- Collaborate with the Senior Director, Corporate Communications to build a motivated team capable of providing excellent, value-added services, including team planning and recruitment.
- Provide troubleshooting for the team with respect to any issues or challenges that arise
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and development opportunities to the team.
- Oversee the objective setting and performance management for the team.
- Create a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Manage the workload of the team in an effective and fair manner.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
Health and Safety
- Work in compliance with the provisions of the applicable provincial Health and Safety legislation(s), regulations, and internal policies and procedures.
- Wear all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required.
Working Conditions
- Must possess exceptional computer skills, especially the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines, conflicting demands, frequent interruptions, and heavy workloads.
- Working in an office/hybrid environment.
- Light to infrequently moderate physical effort; requires handling of light and moderate weight objects including office equipment and other office supplies.
- Occasional travel required (up to 10% of the time).
Education and Experience:
- Post-secondary diploma or certificate in marketing, public relations, communications, journalism or equivalent experience is required.
- Seven to ten years of related management experience in public relations, social media and/or marketing communication is required. Preferably in real estate, construction and or land development.
- Comprehensive understanding and familiarity with trends in marketing, journalistic, public relations, social media, brand journalism, and thought leadership strategies are required.
- Experience with real estate planning, development and construction process.
- Bilingualism (English/French) required.
