IT Operations & Infrastructure Manager

Overview
Our client is a multi-site organization operating across Northern British Columbia. The environment is complex and growing, with technology playing a critical role in supporting internal operations, systems, and ongoing organizational needs.
They are seeking an IT Operations & Infrastructure Manager to take ownership of their technology environment. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the performance, stability, and evolution of IT systems, infrastructure, and cloud platforms.
This is not a pure management role. The successful candidate must be technically credible and comfortable operating within the environment, not just overseeing it.
The Role
This role is responsible for owning the IT environment end-to-end, including infrastructure, Microsoft cloud platforms, identity, endpoint management, and service delivery.
You will lead IT operations while also staying close to the technology, supporting troubleshooting, guiding technical decisions, and ensuring systems are operating effectively across a multi-site environment.
Project delivery is part of the role, but this is fundamentally an IT operations and systems leadership position with a strong hands-on expectation.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and manage IT operations, infrastructure, and service delivery across a distributed environment
- Ensure stability, performance, and uptime of core systems, cloud platforms, and user environments
- Lead and support delivery of infrastructure and systems initiatives
- Support and maintain Microsoft 365 and Azure environments
- Manage identity, access, and device management frameworks
- Work closely with internal teams across help desk, infrastructure, and security
- Troubleshoot and support complex technical issues when required
- Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers
- Prioritize and manage a portfolio of IT and business system initiatives
Core Technical Requirements (Must-Have)
Candidates must have strong, hands-on experience across the Microsoft and infrastructure stack, including:
- Microsoft 365
- Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive
- Deployment, administration, and support
- Azure / Entra ID
- Identity and access management
- Conditional Access policies
- MFA and authentication strategies
- Endpoint Management
- Intune and device management
- Autopilot deployment and configuration
- Device compliance and policy enforcement
- Infrastructure
- Networking, servers, and endpoint environments
- Understanding of system architecture and integrations
- Troubleshooting
- Ability to diagnose and resolve:
- Authentication and access issues
- Device compliance / policy issues
- User experience and system performance problems
- Ability to diagnose and resolve:
Technical Expectation
Candidates will be expected to speak in detail about:
- How systems are designed, configured, and deployed
- How issues are diagnosed and resolved
- The reasoning behind technical decisions and architecture
A technical interview will include real-world scenarios across Microsoft 365, Azure, identity, and endpoint management.
Experience & Background
- 7–10+ years of experience in IT operations, infrastructure, or systems leadership roles
- Experience managing multi-site IT environments
- Proven ownership of:
- Infrastructure
- Service desk / support environments
- Cloud platforms
- Experience delivering infrastructure or systems-related projects
- Recent, hands-on involvement in technical environments is required

Important Note
This role is not suited for candidates whose experience is primarily in:
- Project or program management
- High-level IT leadership without recent technical involvement
