Summit Search Group is proud to partner with Monette Produce Ltd. a division of Monette Farms, to recruit their next Horticulture Operations Manager. This role will oversee all aspects of Monette’s horticultural programs, with a focus on planning, directing, and optimizing crop production, staff performance, and resource management to meet the company’s quality, sustainability, and operational objectives. The successful candidate will bring both technical expertise and strong leadership to a dynamic and growing agricultural team.
Reporting to the Director of Produce, the Horticulture Operations Manager will have direct responsibility for managing 4,000 acres of crop production in Outlook, Saskatchewan, ensuring efficient operations, adherence to food safety standards, and alignment with Monette’s long-term goals.

What the Horticulture Operations Manager will do:
Strategic & Operational Leadership
- Develop and implement strategic plans for horticultural programs, aligning with long-term business objectives.
- Lead, supervise, and mentor Farm staff, fostering a culture of safety, productivity, and continuous improvement.
- Manage annual budgets, resource allocation, and cost controls for all horticultural operations.
- Prepare regular reports on production, budget performance, and key performance indicators.
Crop Planning & Production
- Oversee planning, planting, and cultivation of crops, flowers, or specialty plants based on seasonal schedules and market demands.
- Monitor and manage soil health, structure, and fertility to optimize plant growth and yield.
- Implement integrated pest and disease control programs, promoting sustainable and environmentally responsible practices.
- Enforce quality control standards to ensure product excellence and customer satisfaction.
Equipment, Facility & Compliance Oversight
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and storage of horticultural tools, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Maintain compliance with environmental and agricultural regulations while promoting sustainable practices.
- Implement and enforce all safety protocols, ensuring a safe work environment for staff.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Coordinate closely with sales and marketing teams to align production with customer needs and emerging trends.
- Collaborate with logistics, research and development, and other departments to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
- Engage in community outreach and foster positive relationships with local stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement & Industry Engagement
- Stay informed of horticultural research, innovations, and industry best practices to enhance operational efficiency and competitiveness.
- Promote and integrate new technologies and practices that align with Monette Produce’s values and goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Plant Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in horticultural operations, with proven leadership in a commercial agricultural setting.
- Strong knowledge of soil management, crop production, pest control, and sustainable horticulture.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, lead teams, and drive performance metrics.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with horticultural management software considered an asset.
