Our client is a modern and growing structural steel manufacturer. They are seeking a full-time Foreman to lead and manage a team of shop employees while ensuring efficient, safe, and high-quality production in a state-of-the-art facility based in Ottawa, Ontario.
This is a hands-on leadership role focused on team management, production planning, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Some of your key responsibilities in this role will include:
- Leading and supervising a team of employees across multiple functions
- Overseeing daily and weekly production schedules and maintaining a forward-looking view of upcoming projects
- Monitoring workflow and ensuring optimal use of resources, equipment, and materials
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve safety
- Enforcing health and safety policies, ensuring proper PPE use, and reporting incidents promptly
- Approving weekly timesheets and supporting payroll processes
- Maintaining accurate inventory tracking and ensuring materials are organized and available for production
- Supporting quality control programs, including audits and corrective actions
- Coordinating training and certification requirements for team members (e.g., WHMIS, First Aid, Working at Heights, Forklift)
- Ensuring compliance with welding standards and maintaining relevant certifications and documentation
- Managing equipment maintenance and ensuring safe operation of all machinery
- Conducting regular performance reviews and providing coaching and mentorship to team members
- Promoting a positive, team-oriented culture focused on accountability, safety, and continuous improvement
- Participating in production meetings and contributing to planning and scheduling discussions
- Ensuring adherence to company policies, procedures, and quality standards
- Troubleshooting production issues and implementing corrective actions
- Maintaining accurate production records and reporting KPIs to management
- Monitoring job hours, productivity, and efficiency, and communicating results to management
- Ensuring proper material handling and storage practices to prevent damage or delays
- Supporting implementation of lean manufacturing principles and best practices
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a leadership role within a manufacturing or fabrication environment; structural steel experience is a strong asset
- Strong people management skills with the ability to lead, motivate, and develop a diverse team
- Solid understanding of production processes; welding experience or familiarity with fabrication drawings is an asset
- Commitment to health and safety standards and quality control
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work on-site and spend the majority of time on the shop floor
- Tech-savvy and comfortable working in a highly automated environment
