Our client is an innovative specialized technology company that designs and manufactures advanced safety systems used across industrial and security sectors. They are seeking a full-time Engineering Manager to join their team in Oakville, Ontario.
The Engineering Manager will lead an engineering team and drive the development of innovative technology solutions. This role requires not only technical depth but also the ability to manage engineering projects, mentor junior engineers, and apply modern tools such as engineering drawing management systems and project management software to drive efficiency and quality. You will be instrumental in setting strategy, ensuring technical excellence, and mentoring a multidisciplinary team of engineers.
Some of your key responsibilities in this role will include:
- Leading the organization in research, development, and enhancement of new and existing products.
- Defining and driving product development strategies aligned with business goals and market opportunities.
- Utilizing modern CAD platforms (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks) and engineering drawing/document management systems (Autodesk Vault, SolidWorks PDM, or equivalent).
- Leveraging project management tools (MS Project, Jira, or equivalent) to plan, track, and deliver projects within scope, time, and budget.
- Overseeing the development and maintenance of technical documentation, including specifications, FMEAs, DFMEAs, design reviews, and change control processes.
- Overseeing engineering project reviews, risk assessments, and milestone evaluations.
- Collaborating with Sales, R&D, Production, and Service teams to ensure alignment of requirements and seamless product launches.
- Supporting design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) to optimize production efficiency and cost.
- Fostering an environment of creativity, innovation, and continuous improvement within the engineering team.
- Mentoring, developing, and evaluating engineering staff through coaching and performance reviews.
- Supporting manufacturing process improvements and product sustaining initiatives.
- Representing the organization at industry forums, conferences, and tradeshows.
- Ensuring adherence to ISO 9001:2015 requirements and internal quality management systems.
- Working with the Director R&D and Nuclear Engineer to learn all existing algorithms.
- Working with the Director R&D to identify and prepare R&D project submissions which qualify for CRA SR&ED tax credits.
Qualifications:
- Graduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering (PhD or Master’s preferred; exceptional candidates with Bachelor’s considered).
- Must be a licensed P.Eng in Ontario.
- 10+ years of engineering experience, including at least 5 years in a senior engineering team leadership level role.
- Proven track record managing end-to-end product development lifecycles.
- Strong technical foundation in physics, electronics, and/or software systems.
- Proficiency with CAD systems (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks) and drawing/document management tools (Autodesk Vault, SolidWorks PDM, or equivalent).
- Experience with project management software (MS Project, Jira, Asana, or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of systems engineering methodologies, including V-model, MBSE, and lifecycle management.
- Proficient in CAD, simulation tools, and systems modeling software (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, SysML).
- Experience with manufacturing processes, quality control, and product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
- Familiarity with Agile, Lean, or Six Sigma methodologies is a plus.
- Exceptional leadership, mentoring, and team-building abilities.
- Instill robust engineering design practices, including technical and cross-functional design reviews.
- Support product sustaining efforts and manufacturing process improvement.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and oral.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to align engineering activities to corporate strategy.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., INCOSE CSEP, PMP) are advantageous.
Working Environment:
- Most work will be in an office environment.
- Occasional activity on the production floor and in the field (e.g. at a customer site) may be required.
- The ability to travel worldwide may be required, usually no more than 10-20% of time.
