This is a rare opportunity to shape and scale the AI function within a company applying advanced analytics to highly complex, real-world challenges.
About the Role
Reporting to the CTO and collaborating directly with senior leadership, the Director AI will architect and implement ML/AI strategies to support high-impact use cases—ranging from multi-modal data fusion to the deployment of LLMs and custom neural networks. This role offers a mix of hands-on technical work and strategic oversight, and will be instrumental in building a small, high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and deployment of machine learning models in support of predictive analytics, anomaly detection, and generative workflows.
- Design and integrate Large Language Models (LLMs), neural networks, and GenAI solutions tailored to scientific and industrial domains.
- Collaborate with domain experts (e.g., engineers, geoscientists, product teams) to translate complex data problems into practical AI solutions.
- Build and lead a team of AI/ML scientists, fostering a strong technical culture and high delivery standards.
- Contribute to strategic road mapping and cross-functional initiatives across engineering, data, and operations.
What They’re Looking For
- 10+ years of experience in AI, machine learning, or data science, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity.
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, or related fields.
- Deep expertise in machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn), GenAI, and LLMs (GPT, BERT, etc.).
- Strong programming background in Python (or R/Julia).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Experience leading end-to-end AI/ML projects that drive measurable business value.
- Demonstrated success building and mentoring technical teams.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence both technical and executive stakeholders.
Nice-to-Haves
- Exposure to multi-physics datasets or geoscientific data
- Experience with geospatial tools (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS) or 3D modeling software
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for ML models and statistical uncertainty modeling
Why This Role
- Join a company solving unique, complex challenges through AI innovation
- Lead both strategy and execution in a newly created function
- Competitive compensation, equity participation, and a culture that values technical curiosity and impact
- Hybrid model with flexibility and strong executive support
