About Our Client:
Our client is an industry leader in the recycling and sustainability space.
Position Scope:
Reporting to the VP, Communications & Customer Sustainability, the Communications and Marketing Lead will help build and ingrain brand recognition, raise event and key initiative awareness, drive and maintain positive customer and stakeholder relations, and drive participation both internally and externally in various organizational initiatives to support the approved annual objectives and Strategic Communications Plan.
Responsibilities:
Communication and Marketing
- Engage various stakeholders such as internal staff and leadership team, tire producers (manufactures and auto-makers), tire collection sites (tire shops, car dealerships), used tire hauling companies and used tire processing plants.
- Work calmly, thoughtfully, and productively within an expanding and contracting business and industry, pivoting as needed, knowing when to stay the course; and maintaining a positive, solutions-oriented outlook, where changes and challenges are viewed as opportunities.
- Develop and execute effective communications, including communications plans, newsletters, presentations, press releases, targeted emails, articles, videos, infographics, and media opportunities.
- Demonstrate a keen, consistent accuracy in written and edited work, allowing you to develop and co-create content for a variety of audiences.
- Provide communications recommendations and advisement to support staff in their day-to-day work, projects, or crisis-related communications, providing strategic and common-sense messaging around a variety of complex changing topics.
- Plan and manage events, brand representation, promotional items, sponsorships supporting both organization events, programs and external sponsorships and collaborations.

- Excited to represent the organization by leading the organizing, attending and/or hosting, as needed, at special events during, and occasionally outside of normal working hours.

- Ability to build and maintain solid relationships with internal team at all levels of the organization.
- Effectively present ideas and strategies that help to strengthen the organization’s brand and seek to improve programs and initiatives year-over-year.
- Effectively collaborate with all levels of the organization to create effective plans and to promote the organization’s programs, events, and projects.
- Ability to work proactively and inclusively to support productive relations with the team and stakeholders affiliated with the organization.
- Ability to effectively create/co-create and present ideas, analytics and outcomes to the Senior Leadership Team.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Proven experience managing internal and external stakeholders, partners, and agencies.
- Working knowledge and ability to produce creative briefs for complex design projects, and to create various graphics for digital and print.
- Comprehensive understanding of Communications’ best practices, techniques, and related technologies, and demonstrated interest in keeping up with the evolving field of Communications.
- Expertise in managing multiple social media platforms, with excellent working knowledge of LinkedIn, X and Facebook.
- Working knowledge of SEO, key performance indictors, measurement tools, Canva, and/or Adobe preferred.
- Collaborative team player, able to work independently and on a team as needed.
- Ability to contextualize and assimilate relevant information quickly and easily. Learn new concepts and assess nuances while often “painting a moving train”.
- Remain objective in the face of problems by staying focused on solutions.
- Own projects and provide suggestions and recommendations.
- Ability to establish rapport with diverse stakeholders at all levels of the organization from various industries and background, in person, remotely and in a written or spoken context.
- Adjust to new situations and continue working at a high level while owning both administrative level tasks and more senior level projects.
- Maintain a high level of attention to detail in day-to-day tasks with a clear perspective eon how tasks fit into broader overall communications and company objectives.
- Passion for recycling, sustainability and circular economy topics.
- Working knowledge of government relations and its role and impact on regulated industries.
Education and Experience:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, or relevant field, or equivalent experience.
- Member of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) preferred.
- 5-7 years’ experience in Communications role demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility and achievement.
- Digital portfolio of your own written work and communications campaign examples.
- Exceptional English writing/editing skills, including: proofreading, conceptualizing, eye for detail, succinct and clear flow, and theme development.
- Proficient in Adobe Express, and/or other design applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) to produce posters, handouts, presentation and/or advertising graphics.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (word, Excel, PowerPoint), project management tools, email automation (Mailchimp), website and content management systems (WordPress) and Google Analytics required.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle (required).
