The principals of our client’s company combine a long and successful Insurance history with an equally successful innovative and leading-edge Information technology background. They intend to bring a unique approach to transacting insurance business utilizing their proprietary software, digital marketing and IT tools to help the traditional Insurance Broking community achieve growth, cost savings and expanded brand recognition. Their mandate is to do business exclusively through insurance brokers and their approach will be to bring new revenues for customers by introducing unique products and services along with traditional capacity for their existing Property and Casualty risks. They will also be creating opportunities for their brokers by passing on leads developed from their own digital marketing strategy.

They will soon be launching with a flagship product and several other innovative and creative products. Our client seeks the help of an experienced Commercial Property Underwriter to join their team to help develop the more traditional side of our business.
Position Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Commercial Property Underwriter with an existing book of business in Canada. This is a unique opportunity to join a newly formed company at the beginning, with a view to becoming an integral member of the team.
The ideal candidate will leverage their industry expertise to assess, analyze, and underwrite commercial property risks, ensuring we meet our clients’ needs while maintaining profitability for the company. A commitment to innovation, technology and an entrepreneurial attitude is an asset.
Key Responsibilities:
• Risk Assessment: Evaluate and analyze commercial property applications, utilizing a comprehensive understanding of underwriting principles and market trends.
• Existing Book Management: Manage and grow an existing portfolio of commercial property accounts, maintaining strong relationships with brokers and clients.
• Underwriting Decisions: Make informed underwriting decisions based on risk assessment, ensuring compliance with company guidelines and regulatory requirements.
• Collaboration: Work closely with management, the sales and claims teams to support client relationships and enhance service delivery.
• Market Analysis: Stay informed about industry trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory changes to inform underwriting strategies.
• Documentation: Prepare detailed underwriting reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
• Training and Development: Mentor junior underwriters and provide training on best practices in commercial property underwriting.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, risk management, or a related field.
• Minimum of [5] years of experience in commercial property underwriting.
• Established book of business within Canada is essential.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make sound underwriting decisions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on building and maintaining relationships.
• Proficiency in underwriting software and MS Office Suite.
• Relevant professional designations (e.g., CIP, CRM) are an asset.
