About Our Client:
Our client is a leader in the investment management space.
Position Scope:
Our client is seeking a Director, Compensation to join their Total Rewards team. Reporting to the VP, Head of Total Rewards, this role will collaborate closely with team members and business partners to provide strategic compensation support, ensure competitive and equitable pay practices, and play a key role in core processes such as executive compensation advising, broad compensation planning, budgeting, and the year-end compensation review and approval cycle.
Responsibilities:
- Manage core compensation programs across the firm, including base salary structures, annual incentive plans, carried interest/long-term incentive programs, and retention vehicles.
- Manage compensation committee workstreams, including managing annual work plan, preparing Board-ready materials, and consulting with and manage the committee’s external compensation consultant.
- Oversee internal executive compensation workstreams (e.g. setting of annual STIP frameworks, creating materials to support compensation delivery).
- Oversee compensation data integrity, analytics, and reporting to ensure accuracy and decision-usefulness.
- Advise and influence HRBPs and leaders on compensation decisions (e.g.., new hire offers, promotions, retention).
- Manage end-to-end annual compensation cycle and timeline (i.e., set and oversee progress against annual timeline, manage stakeholders, and lead training sessions, as applicable).
- Conduct competitive market analyses using survey data, peer comparisons, and industry benchmarking to ensure compensation programs remain competitive, equitable, and aligned with firm strategy.
- Participate in Total Rewards projects, such as technology enhancements, policy updates, global compensation frameworks, and integration efforts related to acquisitions or new business initiatives.
- Stay current on regulatory, market, and industry trends to inform compensation strategy and maintain compliance with public-company requirements and global labour standards.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Experience working directly with, as well as advising, executive teams and Boards.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel (e.g., lookups, pivot tables, SUMIFS, nested IFs) with the ability to analyze large data sets and present results clearly.
- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage projects independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to convey complex compensation concepts to stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships and influence at all organizational levels.
- Ability to perform well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive data with confidentiality and discretion.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in compensation, with meaningful experience in executive compensation.
- Prior experience in (Alternative) Asset Management or Financial Services preferred.
