Accountant – Healthcare Services NPO
Join a well-established local Non-Profit organization that provides life changing programs and aid services each day to people in need within our community. This opportunity is well suited to an intermediate level Accountant that is highly detailed and task driven, responsible for the day-to-day execution and administration of core accounting and payroll and benefits functions for 200+ employees and contractors. This is an office-based role working at their SE Calgary location.
Accounting Operations:
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including invoice entry, payment processing, and deposit recording in Sage.
- Process vendor payments, including EFT preparation and tracking.
- Record and allocate all bank transactions accurately within Sage.
- Process monthly invoicing for service billings and maintain quarterly revenue and expense tracking for each of the programs including petty cash reconciliations.
Payroll & Benefits Administration:
- Support payroll processing for 200+ employees in coordination with a third-party payroll provider.
- Maintain employee payroll data including new hires, changes, and terminations, track and manage employee time off, including vacation, sick time, personal days, and leaves.
- Collaborate with the Human Resources Department on benefits administration, leave management, and employee change documentation.
- Process employee terminations and prepare Records of Employment as required.
- Reconcile and manage employee benefit deductions, coordinate payroll related adjustments, including garnishments and employee loan tracking.
- Assist with preparation and distribution of T4s and T2200s in coordination with the payroll provider.
Reconciliation, Tracking & Controls:
- Perform reconciliations for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and balance sheet accounts, and reconcile payroll data between internal systems and the third-party payroll provider.
- Monitor financial records for accuracy and investigate and resolve discrepancies as they arise.
- Maintain and update internal trackers, including program revenue and expense tracking.
- Liaise with external accountants to support year end procedures, including audit or review engagements, and provide required documentation and reconciliations.
Qualifications include post-secondary education in accounting/bookkeeping and 5+ years experience in similar role within the Non-Profit sector. Proficiency in Sage and MS Office (advanced Excel) is required and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet consistent deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Compensation includes a salary of $75-85K plus health benefits. This is an in-office position (Monday to Friday regular office hours).
