Summit Search Group has been retained by K-Hart Industries Ltd. on the recruitment of their next Design Engineer. K-Hart designs, manufactures, and globally distributes seeding and harvesting equipment for conservation-minded agricultural producers. On their behalf, we are seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Design Engineer to support the development and continuous improvement of K-Hart’s agricultural equipment. Reporting to the engineering leadership team, this role will play a key part in translating concepts into practical, field-ready designs while collaborating closely with manufacturing and test teams.

The Opportunity
The Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and continuous improvement of agricultural equipment and components. This role focuses on creating practical, reliable, and cost-effective solutions that perform in demanding field conditions.
The successful candidate will bring a strong mechanical aptitude, hands-on mindset, and the ability to move designs from concept through to prototype, testing, and production, while collaborating cross-functionally to ensure successful product outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Product Design & Development
- Develop system and component designs to meet performance, cost, and durability objectives
- Create CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, and schematics
- Perform engineering analysis using hand calculations and simulation tools to validate design performance
Prototyping, Testing & Production Support
- Design and support prototype builds and product testing
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to support production builds and resolve design-related issues
- Assist in transitioning designs from development into full production
Materials, Processes & Vendor Coordination
- Select appropriate materials, manufacturing processes, and external vendors
- Work closely with suppliers and internal teams to ensure quality, cost, and performance targets are met
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with engineering, manufacturing, and testing teams to bring products from concept to completion
- Support the development of product and service-related documentation
- Contribute to problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives across product lines
Continuous Improvement & Field Performance
- Support ongoing product improvements based on testing results and field feedback
- Contribute to design enhancements that improve reliability, usability, and performance in real-world conditions
- Participate in field visits and testing as required (approximately 10% travel)
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Engineering or Engineering Technologist Diploma (Mechanical or Agricultural preferred)
- Experience in the design of agricultural or heavy equipment considered an asset
- Proficiency with CAD software and engineering drawings
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on mindset
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Experience working with manufacturing teams, vendors, and production environments
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
