Controller – Edmonton
My client, who are a fuel and lubricant services company is seeking a talented Controller to join their dynamic team.
This position will be based out of Edmonton, Alberta and will require occasional travel to the Lloydminster office once per month (travel costs covered.) This is a hybrid role with some travel to Lloydminster required once per month.
This is a pivotal role within our organization, where you will have the opportunity to shape our financial landscape and drive the success of our operations.

Position Summary
- As the Controller, your primary goal will be to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting while providing strategic oversight and analysis to support management decision-making.
- You will optimize working capital, lead corporate service functions (HR, IT, Accounting, and Administration), and maintain strong relationships with legal, tax accountants, banks, and insurance providers.
- Your focus on continuous improvement, risk management, and team development will be instrumental in driving the financial health and strategic growth.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee and execute month-end processes for all entities within the group, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Lead and develop our corporate service functions, including HR, IT, Accounting, and Administration, creating a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- Manage payroll processes in partnership with third-party providers, including employee onboarding, terminations, WCB estimates, and year-end payroll.
- Prepare and present monthly financial reporting packages to senior management and stakeholders highlighting key performance indicators and trends that drive informed decision-making. Provide in-depth commentary on analysis of costs, and profit margins, recommending improvements to optimize operational efficiencies, support business decisions, capital investments, pricing decisions and contract negotiations.
- Manage daily cash flow including overseeing bank relationships and accounts receivable collections.
- Lead the preparation of the annual budgets and financial forecasts, monitor variances and inform stakeholders of corrective actions as needed to align with corporate goals.
- Engage with legal counsel, tax accountants, banks, and insurance providers to prepare necessary documentation, ensuring compliance and optimizing financial strategies.
- Develop and maintain documented accounting policies and procedures, ensuring compliance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business, or related field is required.
- 10 years of accounting experience.
- 5+ years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3+ years of experience in a supervisory role, leading and managing a team effectively.
- Proven track record in financial reporting, forecasting, cash flow management, and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Effective and persuasive presentation skills on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups and/or board of directors
- Merger and acquisition experience is preferred.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken
