SENIOR DIRECTOR OF HOUSING AND HOMELESSNESS
As the Senior Director of Housing and Homelessness , you will lead critical initiatives addressing housing, infrastructure needs, and poverty reduction in BC. This role involves strategic oversight, implementation, and management of comprehensive programs and services.
The Senior Director reports to the Chief Operating Officer

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
- Recommends new policies and procedures on housing and infrastructure development-related policy decisions and works to implement approved policies and procedures as approved by the CEO and the Board.
- Supports the Chief Operating Officer as needed in presentations, meetings, and updates. Provides timely information and analysis to inform decisions of the Board.
Program Development and Infrastructure Management
- Leads the development of culturally relevant affordable housing, social infrastructure, and poverty reduction programs ensuring they meet the community’s needs.
- Administers housing support programs and infrastructure projects, with a focus on sustainable poverty alleviation.
Community Engagement and Advocacy
- Actively engages with stakeholders, and policy makers to understand and address housing, infrastructure, and poverty challenges.
- Represents and advocates for various platforms, emphasizing their needs in housing, infrastructure, and poverty reduction.
- Maintains current knowledge of local, provincial, and federal services, resource persons, and significant initiatives of importance.
Team and Project Management
- Manages a multidisciplinary team dedicated to housing, infrastructure, and poverty reduction initiatives.
- Ensures efficient allocation and utilization of resources across various projects and programs.
Policy Development and Implementation
- Contributes to the development of housing, infrastructure, and poverty reduction policies, ensuring they align with community needs and strategic objectives.
- Implements and adapts policies based on ongoing evaluation and community feedback.
Monitoring, Reporting, and Evaluation
- Monitors the progress and effectiveness of related programs.
- Provides comprehensive reports to leadership and stakeholders, highlighting achievements, challenges, and areas for improvement in housing, infrastructure, and poverty reduction.
- Participates in committees and project teams as required.
- Undertakes related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade of the position.
- Other duties may be assigned as needed to ensure the efficient operation.
- Regular/ occasional attendance at meetings/ events that may require work and travel outside of normal business hours.
Supervision Given
- Supervise staff including assignment of work, development and evaluation of performance plans, approval of leave, responding to grievances and initiation of discipline processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Land Use Planning, Construction Management, Real Estate Management, Business or Public Administration from a recognized, post-secondary institution. Master’s degree or Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a leadership role or related experience.
- A member in good standing of the Planning Institute of British Columbia (PIBC).
- A combination of relevant experience, education, and training may be considered.
- Proven track record in writing complex funding proposals and funder reports.
- Strong communicator, relationship-builder, and role model of organizational values.
- Experience operating housing or social infrastructure development programs within a government or non-profit setting.
- Experience working with housing boards and societies.
- In-depth knowledge of community development approaches and best practices.
- Familiarity with the housing, infrastructure, and poverty-related challenges facing Indigenous communities.
- Proficiency in financial management and procurement and contract management processes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change initiatives and supervise teams for optimal performance.
- Exercise discretion, sound judgment, political acuity, strong critical thinking, issues management, and problem-solving abilities.
