Our client is a well-established transportation and logistics organization seeking a full-time Terminal Manager to lead its operations on-site in Montreal, Quebec.
This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing terminal operations, driving service and financial performance, and leading a team of employees through a group of direct-report managers.
The successful candidate will bring a strong combination of operational leadership, commercial acumen, and transportation industry expertise, with the ability to build relationships, manage carrier partnerships, support customer-facing initiatives, and contribute to continued growth and process improvement efforts.
Some of your key responsibilities in this role will include:
Operations & Terminal Leadership
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the terminal, ensuring service, safety, quality, and productivity objectives are achieved.
- Lead a team of managers responsible for dispatch, dock operations, safety, drivers, and administrative functions.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and customer service.
- Lead change initiatives as the organization continues to modernize processes and implement new technologies.
Carrier Management & Customer Relations
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with carrier partners and transportation providers.
- Support rate negotiations and transportation procurement activities.
- Leverage market knowledge to support pricing strategies, RFP opportunities, and customer solutions.
- Act as a key point of contact for customers and internal stakeholders to ensure service expectations are met.
- Utilize industry knowledge and carrier relationships to support operational and commercial success.
Financial Management
- Manage terminal performance against budgeted operational and financial objectives.
- Monitor operational and performance metrics and understand their impact on overall financial results.
- Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and cost-control initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and resource utilization.
People Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop both direct and indirect reports across the terminal.
- Provide leadership to a team of 5-6 direct-report managers, including leaders responsible for dispatch, office operations, dock operations, and driver safety.
- Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Support employee development and performance management initiatives.
- Build positive working relationships within a unionized environment.
Qualifications:
- Fully bilingual in French and English.
- Leadership experience within transportation, logistics, freight, terminal, distribution, or brokerage operations.
- Strong understanding of transportation operations, carrier management, and brokerage activities.
- Experience managing budgets, operational metrics, and financial performance.
- Demonstrated ability to lead large teams through multiple levels of management.
- Experience within a unionized environment is preferred.
- Strong customer-facing, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience supporting RFP processes, pricing, costing, and rate management activities.
- Proven ability to lead change and process improvement initiatives.
- Excellent communication, organizational, coaching, and leadership skills.
- Brokerage experience and an established network of carrier relationships are considered strong assets.
