Our client is a national provider of group benefits, group retirement and human resource solutions. They are looking for a full-time Senior Pension & Benefits Consultant to join their team in Ottawa, Ontario.
The Senior Pension & Benefits Consultant will report to the Regional Vice President. The focus of this role is to support the organization by adding new clients, with the recognition of client retention and growth of existing accounts as a complementary and enabling priorities, through annual client planning and new business with existing and new customers.
In recognition of the focus on new business, objectives and priorities will be inclusive of specific targets for attainment of new clients as well as organic growth, product extension and penetration, and cross sell and up sell to those clients. The Senior Pension & Benefits Consultant formulates and upon approval, implements short term and long-term plans and strategies for retention and growth on behalf of the organization and its Benefit Solutions division.
Targets will be built in collaboration with, and subject to the approval of the SVP Benefits Solutions, regional leadership team and informed by the organization’s overall priorities, budgets, and associated revenue objectives.
Some of your key responsibilities in this role will include:
- Contributing to the success of the organization by supporting top and bottom-line financial performance within the Division
- Working to effectively represent the needs and concerns of the business in its local market as it pertains to meeting the overall budgeted objectives and organizational priorities of the organization
- Responsible for sales in a certain geographic area, industry, and/or product line. Within this area, achieves a budgeted sales volume and maximized market potential. Services own accounts
- In conjunction with the Regional Vice President and the Consulting team, designs, and executes marketing and sales strategies, policies, and programs for products and services
- Strives to maintain and consistently enhance the employer’s competitive position in the marketplace
- Develops new markets, recommends improvements in products and services, and develops sales strategies to meet operating and financial goals
- Establishes effective communications with appropriate executives and managers to maximize the employer’s sales effectiveness
- Implements sales forecasts and objectives
- Develops and implements strategies relating to client retention, renewal sales, and quality service
- Directs the strategic planning for client renewal and retention strategies for assigned clients
- Maintains productive working relationships and expands sales with existing clients by developing and implementing sales strategies to achieve membership growth
- Maintains an expert level of knowledge over a complete line of products/services and clients’ issues and needs
- Uses professional skills and concepts to solve a variety of clients’ problems
- Directly manages business relationships for assigned clients. Plans and administers the various employee benefit programs
- Ensures that systems and processes are in place to meet the client’s internal and external needs
- Analyzes and develops clients’ benefits programs and recommends alternatives to better meet clients’ employees’ needs
- Tracks benefits costs to recommend updates to improve employee benefit plans, including cost-saving measures and pricing strategies
- Develops and coordinates the client’s risk management programs and directs the planning and administration of clients’ various employee benefit programs
- Assists clients in interpreting benefit policies and procedures. Prepares and delivers presentations to clients
- Makes on-site presentations to clients and prospective clients to educate, inform, and enroll employees
- Represents the best interests of the organization and its clients to the benefits community and the general public
- Maintains all licensing requirements needed to conduct sales of the employer’s products and services
- Remains insurable for categories of insurance and minimum amounts of errors and omissions insurance as required to perform the duties by all licensing and regulatory bodies in the province(s) in which the employee is performing the duties
- Prepares an annual business plan each fiscal year for the fulfillment by the employee of the duties, including the specific activities to be undertaken by the employee to fulfill such business plan
- Assists in developing and implementing short-range (one- to three-year) policies and procedures, objectives, plans and programs to maximize sales with optimum return on investment
- Maintains a thorough working knowledge of company policies and procedures, and implements such by using sound judgment and initiative
- Collects, compiles, and analyzes moderately complex employee benefit data and information. Composes straightforward written descriptions of results. Composes both internal and external communications regarding products
- Exercises independent judgment and employs sophisticated reasoning skills
- Works with others to collect and prepare information
Qualifications:
- 3 – 5 years of related work experience in group benefits is expected, along with experience in pension
- This position requires a post-secondary degree
- A valid Life Insurance License in Ontario and/or Quebec
- Sound knowledge of group benefits, Microsoft Office, and standard office administration procedures
- Excellent grammatical, spelling, and communication skills
- Superior data entry skills and strong mathematical and reconciliation skills
- The demonstrated ability to learn and master new software and technology
- The demonstrated ability to build new customer relations and the ability to maintain good public relations, both within and outside the organization
- Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize and multi-task, and the ability to manage time effectively
- The ability to adhere to existing company policies and procedures
- The ability to use tact and discretion to maintain information in the strictest of confidence
- The Senior Pension & Benefits Consultant is responsible to work extended hours as requested or as required to meet the job demands, and must agree to do other duties as assigned
- English/French bilingualism is an asset
