Our client, a well-established IT Service company, are looking for a Network Engineer to join their team in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This is a great opportunity for an intermediate Network Engineering professional to work in a company that offers growth opportunities and an excellent work environment! In this role you will support our client’s network systems, with a focus on security and data access. Using your problem-solving skills and best practice knowledge, you will be responsible for network monitoring and configurations, performance issues, and configuring security systems such as firewalls.
As the Network Engineer, you will configure and manage network equipment and connectivity such as firewalls, switches/routers, VPN, VoIP, data, and Wi-Fi (Fortigate, Sonicwall and Aruba). You will be responsible for troubleshooting, problem solving, and resolving issues. Working in a cross-functional environment, you will effectively resolve incidents, and propose and complete problem remediations. Working knowledge of dynamic routing, OSPF, BGP, network redundancies, High Availability, and failover methodologies will be important in this role.
To be successful in this role you should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A College Diploma or University Degree in Information Technology and Networking, plus 3-5 years related work experience is required. Hands-on experience with Fortigate/Fortinet is a must! You should have experience with network technology support, TCP/IP, VPN, Switches, Routing/Routers, and Firewall technologies. Proficiency managing Service Level Agreements and a strong understanding of WAN technologies such as MPLS, LAN Extensions, and IPSEC tunneling is required. Knowledge of Windows and Linux Operating Systems and experience with cloud-based solutions are preferred. Network Certifications are considered a strong asset.
