Our client is a dynamic international transportation, logistics and marketing organization with a considerable network and infrastructure throughout the Canadian marketplace.
As the senior manager for the region, the Gen. manager will have full P&L responsibility for the region and management team responsibility/execution of strategic initiatives, safety, sales, customer service, and operations. This role is part of the Commercial Leadership Team with responsibilities for developing and delivering strategy, culture, and financial results. The General Manager is expected to understand the business end-to-end and have the ability to balance multiple priorities, capital planning, and resource alignment in order to achieve aggressive growth and profitability improvement targets. Other key responsibilities include overseeing customer experience, logistics and supply chain management, operational effectiveness, employee engagement, and continuous improvement. The General Manager is accountable for the region’s key performance indicators including financial (Revenue/Volume growth, EBITDA, Return on Capital, Operating Ratio) and Non-Financial (safety, productivity improvement, customer service, employee engagement).
Key Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities for this position will be broken down into four primary areas: Safety, Business Leadership, Sales, and Operations
Safety
- Instill a safety first culture throughout the organization
- Ensure alignment with corporate safety strategy, vision, and values
- Ensure adequate resources are allocated to complete HSE programs and initiatives
- Accountable for the implementation, monitoring, and follow-up of safety programs across the region
- Role model for safety compliant behaviors that set the benchmark of what is expected from the team
Business Leadership
- Understand and translate North American Commercial Strategic priorities into regional objectives and priorities
- Accountable for leading profitable business growth in the region and achievement of annual targets
- Provide direction and ownership of business results and KPIs
- Accountable for budgets, forecasts, and key performance indicators
- Required to present business results, including variances to plan and action plans to improve performance
- Develop a strong relationship with key customers and maintain a high level of service. Resolve complex customer service issues in a timely fashion
- Create and review business cases and AFE that support capital spending
- Lead reward and role model the desired Commercial Business operating culture
- Develop long-term vision for the region
Sales
- Ensure the establishment and achievement of annual regional sales objectives.
- Ensure Effective growth and margin expansion strategies are in place
- Ensure sales planning efforts on a regional basis and, in alignment with National sales, participate in sales planning on a national basis
- Ensure the implementation of effective marketing strategies to support business growth objectives
Operations
- Ensure the establishment and achievement of annual regional operations objectives
- Lead, coach, develop and motivate regional business team, including field operations, sales, and regional operations Centre
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement to improve productivity, asset utilization, and cost improvement
- Work collaboratively with corporate support functions to ensure compliance with corporate processes, policies, and procedures
Qualifications:
- Post-Secondary education and 10+ years’ experience in a senior leadership role
- Strong business acumen and financial management skills
- Strong financial understanding and ability to run a complete regional P&L including capital budgeting and asset management
- A strong business presence complemented by resourcefulness, sound business judgement, customer focus, and a bias for action
- Proven track-record of successfully leading a team (sales, customer service, and logistics operations) in a safe and profitable manner
- Excellent customer service and negotiation skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally across teams and to manage a large number of stakeholders
- A motivated team member with effective communication and organizational skills
- Willingness to travel with frequent overnights will be required
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with clean drivers abstract

Remuneration
