GENERAL MANAGER – LOGISTICS

The primary purpose of this General Manager – Logistics role is to maximize the weekly, monthly, and annual performance of the site. Specifically, the General Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of a high-volume supply chain operation. The General Manager will provide overall leadership in the areas of operational performance, P&L management, customer relations, continuous improvement, and associate development. Due to the unique challenges of the industry, it is essential applicants possess a track record of progressive success in performance-based environments that focus on customer service, urgency and continuous improvement.

Job Description:

  • Ensure customer/vendor contract requirements are administered and enforced
  • Maximize the performance of the site inventory management system to ensure:
    • care, custody, and control of customer inventory;
    • productivity and space utilization (efficient product placement, etc);
    • accuracy (to floor and customer book); and
    • proper utilization of information technology
  • Provide a safe, secure, clean and fair work environment for associates
  • Provide for associate performance reviews, development and/or succession planning as appropriate
  • Ensure site operates to the routines outlined in the site interaction matrix and standard operating procedures
  • Ensure company policies are communicated, administered and enforced (i.e. accounting, operational, regulatory and administrative)
  • Take an active leadership role in managing turnover to the appropriate level (among hourly and management staff)
  • Ensure the associates have proper access to the necessary tools to perform their assigned duties and that the tools are routinely accounted for and adequately maintained

 

  • Execution of workshop action plans, projects and best practice sharing / implementation
  • Develop/achieve agreed budget, revenue, profit (P&L) for site
  • Monitor service levels to ensure that performance statistics meet customer/ vendor, and Exel( balanced scorecard) contractual requirements
  • Take an active role in site workload planning and volume forecasting (i.e. staffing, equipment, space)

Job Requirements:

  • 7+ years supply chain management experience in transportation, distribution and/or freight management preferably in a perishable/frozen environment
  • A degree in Logistics, Industrial Engineering, or a related operations discipline
  • 4+ years’ experience managing full P&L
  • A hands-on management approach that encourages change and creative problem-solving
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced and high-intensity environment
  • Ability to interact effectively at multiple levels in support of customer relationships
  • Ability to meet strict time frames in environments with zero tolerance for failure
  • A commitment to continuous improvement in an ever-changing industry
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and high integrity
  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Ability to groom and grow others
  • Self-confidence (particularly with client relationships)
