This role is based in Iqaluit, Nunavut and would require relocation full-time.

Our client is committed to providing healthy, safe, and dignified housing solutions and supports for homeless people in Iqaluit while assisting them in developing and maintaining independent lives. They are seeking a full-time Executive Director to join their team in Iqaluit, Nunavut.

The Executive Director oversees all aspects of the organization, the overall management of all day-to-day leadership and activities which support and enable the organization to provide housing and homelessness services. The Executive Director will uphold the organizational vision and lead the management team through development, implementing the programs and operations that meet the vision. The Executive Director will be responsible for ensuring the long-term financial stability and accountability of the organization with a focus on growing funding to enhance existing locations and new programs. This position involves building and maintaining a consistent and professional brand that inspires confidence and trust from all its stakeholders.

 

Some of your key responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Overseeing the organization and its programs to ensure overall efficiency and effectiveness of its operations and programs
  • Leading the organization and ensuring its success in a manner that supports good governance providing the necessary supports and resources for effective Board discussions and decisions
  • Leading and facilitate the strategic planning processes and ensuring its implementation
  • Spearheading long-term planning geared towards operational excellence and working collaboratively in supporting and achieving the organization’s mission and strategic goals
  • Preparing annual budgets, P&L and business plans
  • Designing budgets and analyzing financial information to determine the way to streamline operational offerings and opportunities
  • Identifying, evaluating, and implementing measures to control the organizational risk to include human capital (board members, staff and residents), property, finances, goodwill, and image
  • Advising, guiding and supporting HR-related matters and ensuring the day-to-day HR infrastructure, programs and performance reviews are up to date
  • Performing crisis intervention as needed, including determining when it is necessary to involve other staff, administration, or the authorities
  • Maintaining and managing written and oral communication of incidents in accordance with policies
  • Reviewing, analyzing, and managing the organizational and operational needs, making recommendations to enhance efficiency and effectiveness across all service delivery areas
  • Managing risk and opportunity inclusive of service delivery, financial, governance, legal and compliance, human resources, and information technology
  • Revising and/or formulating internal policies and procedures and promoting their implementation
  • Designing and overseeing implementation of programs and services, including but not limited to expansion of current programs along the housing continuum
  • Directing external legal counsel on related organizational matters
  • Researching, identifying, and leveraging potential funding opportunities
  • Active coaching, mentoring, career development, training, and performance management of the team
  • Safeguarding the organization by ensuring it effectively and ethically conforms to standards and regulations
  • Applying health and safety standards, regulations, policies, and procedures and complying with them
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Non-Profit Management, Business Administration, Public Policy or related field or combination of experience
  • Training in Human Resources Management, Accounting, Non-Profit Governance, or Business Strategy is an asset
  • Other education or training preferred includes relevant federal and territorial legislation such as labour standards, privacy, residential tenancies
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a senior leadership role
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the non-profit sector; preferably in housing and homelessness services
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience designing budgets and analyzing financial information
  • Proven experience building and leveraging strong relationships within internal partners, stakeholders, and government
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively lead a cross-functional team
  • Excellent oral and written communication and public speaking skills
  • Proven track record developing and successfully executing business growth strategies
  • Results-oriented problem solver who provides practical advice and guidance and the ability to trouble-shoot issues to resolution
  • Model decisiveness and ensure the highest standards of ethical conduct and integrity
  • Outstanding ability to develop and build relationships and influence others
  • Superior organizational skills with outstanding ability to manage multiple high-level priorities and to meet tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality deliverables on time and within budget
  • Significant ability to problem-solve, using analysis and creativity to resolve for unique issues
  • Inuit and Bi-Cultural Competency and ability to operate effectively in both a mainstream and Inuit cultural / political environment
  • The ability to build trust and respect – treats people with dignity, respect, and fairness; listens to others and considers opinions and ideas; shares thoughts, feelings, and rationale for decisions made, operates with integrity

  • Possessing an entrepreneurial mindset, positioning the organization for future success by recognizing opportunities to gain funding, write grant applications, improve service offerings and take appropriate risks
  • Continually exhibiting good financial acumen and taking responsibility for the protection of the organization while monitoring profit and loss and costs to ensure the organization’s long-term sustainability
  • The ability to identify safety issues/problems and informs the appropriate individual when issues arise; reports unsafe working conditions; makes recommendations for correcting safety and security concerns
  • Maintain and develop professional competence, through appropriate continuing education methods
  • Bilingual Inuktut / English capabilities are an asset
  • Experience with software such as Advanced Office Suite, Intermediate Dayforce, Beginner QuickBooks, HR Downloads, e-Payment Systems
  • Experience using presentation equipment, digital, online and virtual platforms
  • This position requires a low level of physical exertion. Occasional lifting of up to ten (10) pounds (4.54 kg). Occasional requirement to be outside in cold temperatures. Low intensity of sensory effort is required
