About Our Client: Our client has a group of companies comprised of regulated and nonregulated entities within the electrical distribution space servicing homes and businesses.
Position Scope: This role is responsible for developing strategic distribution network investment plans, including capital replacement, refurbishment, systems additions and enhancements to achieve maximum life cycle value, accommodate electrification adoption, optimal capital utilisation and high standards of system reliability. This position reports to the Director of Engineering & Operations and will be responsible for the preparation of designs, cost estimates, bills of material, drawings, work instructions, coordination of contract work, approval of new design standards and inspections. In addition, this position will be a key driver for implementing new technology and grid automation within our system.
Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities for this position will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Maintain a strong commitment to safety in the workplace for the protection of employees and the general public;
- Lead, mentor and motivate the engineering department’s staff through improved employee engagement, productivity while fostering a customer centric culture;
- Provide direction to engineering design and technical specifications pertaining to grid automation, construction, operations and maintenance of the electrical distribution system;
- Review and approve departmental deliverables including drawings, permits, standards, data collected, etc.;
- Review and interpret ESA bulletins, Distribution System Code and CSA standard amendments and implement changes as required;
- Stay abreast of emerging grid automation technology and processes and propose how HHH can leverage it in its operations;
- Lead distribution system asset management plan activities including asset inspections and resulting maintenance activities. Analyse annual asset inspection data to determine future capital expenditure projects;
- Assign and delegate tasks for GIS maps, reporting and applications;
- Assist in the development and administration of the annual capital and operating budget that maximises productivity and minimises costs, maximises the efficient use of resources, and looks for and achieves continuous improvement while protecting the safety of workers and the public;
- Ensure designs for new installations, subdivisions, Offers to Connect, rebuilds, upgrades and relocation of the distribution system meet HHH’s standards, Ontario Regulation 22/04, OEB and ESA regulations, and other applicable codes, standards, and regulations, in a timely, efficient, and fiscally responsible manner;
- Oversee the metering program, internal and third party; [NTD J/N consideration]
- Understand and practice HHHI safety rules and procedures including the EUSR Safety Rule Book, Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable legislation;
- Interact with stakeholders to communicate progress, resolve issues, improve work execution processes, ensure regulatory compliance, and safeguard corporation interests;
- Review work order / project reporting to ensure accuracy and track costs to budget;
- Other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with P.Eng. designation and registered with PEO would be considered an asset
- Minimum 5 years in a leadership role
- Minimum of 10 years in an electrical distribution engineering environment including proficiency in :
- Design and operation of overhead and underground systems, drawings and technologies
- Distributed generation (DERs) and DSO’s
- Working knowledge of industry specific software applications such as SPIDACalc, AutoCAD, ESRI GIS, MS Office, and SCADA host systems
Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of the OEB Distribution System Code, O. Reg 22/04 and industry specific standards and specifications from USF, CSA, ESA and IHSA
- Proven interpersonal skills, including respect for all customers and employees;
- Leadership in the areas of team building;
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;
- Must be detailed oriented, self-motivated, able to manage multiple projects with varying deadlines, be adaptive and innovative in their assignments and providing support to team members and customers, and have a strong commitment to safety;
- Able to work make decisions that may have a major impact on the organisation;
- A valid Ontario G driver’s license with a clean driving record;
